The TransCanada Pipeline: Do you really want this in your back yard?

This is just the Alaska pipeline. Ugly?

The TransCanada pipeline is projected to go across North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Oklahoma, and Texas to supply Canadian crude oil to Port Arthur Texas and various points in between..

13,000 new jobs are promised. Wow! But how many pipefitters, welders, mechanics, electricians, heavy equipment operators live in your neighborhood. The company is Canadian so their white collar types would be running the show.

The propaganda has already started. Have you seen the tv ad sponsored by the American Petroleum Institute? That's the huge oil lobby group in Washington, D.C.; that razed an entire block of prime real estate on K Street to build their headquarters.

The entire deal was developed by TransCanada and our State Department. (Secretary of State Hillary Clinton brokered the deal with the TransCanada guy allegedly.) Congress keeps trying to add the project into appropriation and budget bills.

Have you been paying attention to this? If you are and East Coast person or a Left Coast person, you don't really care since the mess is in the Midwest's (specifically Nebraska) back yard, But it does split the continent and makes cross country road trips more difficult.

And haven't our fearless leaders remembered the problems with keeping the Alaska pipeline maintained and the leaks that are seldom reported? And the problems with substandard steel pipes that deteriorate and leak. Forget the environment. Watch out for danger to people living near such nasty structures. And it's only Nebraska.
