What is unique about them is that the female is not the weaker sex. She is not monogamous. She is not nurturing. She lays her eggs and leaves her young to fend for themselves. Survival of the fittest.
As for the male mantis, his only purpose in life is to impregnate her. Afterwards, he becomes a snack.
